Economic contribution of the UK downstream oil sector

The downstream oil sector is the backbone of the UK economy.

We represent the major fuel producers and suppliers in the UK, including the six major refineries.

The UK has the sixth largest refining capacity in Europe. The six major UK refineries have a combined capacity of 58 million tonnes (MT) per year and exported over 21MT in 2022.

Our associate members include terminals, pipelines, importers of heating fuel and LNG and producers of renewable and sustainable fuels.

Our industry's contribution is felt across all of the UK's nations and regions, including through activity we enable elsewhere in the economy.
