The sixth meeting of the EU Refining Forum will take place on 1st March 2016.
The Forum was first established in 2013 in recognition of the need to address the cumulative impact of policies on the EU refining industry, with particular regard to those policies placing industry at a competitive disadvantage to non EU-refiners. It brings together representatives from industry, Member States, Commission, European Parliament, and other key stakeholders to discuss planned and future regulatory proposals with potentially significant impacts on the EU’s refining industry and on the security of supply of petroleum products.
With the debate continuing, further pressures have been added on industry and the regulatory burden is expected to increase.
Chris Hunt, Director General of UKPIA, commented: “The Refining Forum, and the sectoral Fitness Check2 published in December 2015, emphasise the need for policy makers across the EU to place manufacturing at the forefront of policy design. It is essential that the Better Regulation agenda delivers, and that actions and future strategies recognise the contribution of industry to the economy, growth, security of supply and resilience.”
