London, 15/02/2021 - The UK Petroleum Industry Association (UKPIA) welcomes the announcement of the Essar and Fulcrum BioEnergy waste-to-fuel Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) plant, in the North West of England.
The bio-refinery, which could be operational in 2025, will convert several hundred thousand tonnes of pre-processed household waste, which would have otherwise been destined for incineration or landfill, into approximately 100 million litres of low carbon SAF every year.
Essar is already investing in decarbonisation at the Stanlow site with an earlier announcement this year of £750m into the HyNet blue hydrogen industrial cluster, and this further announcement will help ensure greater emission reductions, this time from their products.
